"Wake up, Wake up Arushi! We need to go!"

"What?", she said hazily.

"Here are some proper clothes, as much as I like the view, you'll be cold."

She smirked, "Where are we going at 5 A.M in the morning?"

He shushed her, held her hand and walked down those stairs and she understood where they were going.

He mentioned clothes but forgot to hand her a jacket, coincidence? Oh no.

She noticed the scooter was clean and the fuel tank was full, she smirked again, this time he saw her smirking and understood for the last time why he had fallen for her.

She asked for the keys, he handed them over gladly and off they were, to the spot.

The spot was on top of a hill and about 160 km from home and past 32 hairpin bend.

The spot where he said, "Arashi, I know I've been an arsehole. To justify my actions, you have been an arsehole too. Before you storm off and start plotting revenge for making you climb up here all alone, I would like to say, Arushi, I have thought about a few things. Those few things involve making you happy, seeing you smirk every time I say something stupid or sarcastic and holding your hand, I know for a fact that you are the one. I have fallen for you, not head over heels, just a few thousand feet below sea level. Do you feel the same way about me?"

She sat down and he followed.

Silence followed too but since Ralph couldn't sit silently for more than 10 seconds, "Babe? Tell me!"

She looked at him with her death stare.

"It's too hard, nobody knows about this. You've got to tell me!", he shrieked.

"Let's go back to camp before they wake up."

"But ..." before he could finish.

"NOW!" she roared.

They silently got back to camp. Before Arashi could make it back to her tent, Ralph held her hand and asked her, "Do you?" and she smirked and left.

This is how it all started. Ralph and Arushi.

A full tank of petrol sponsored by Mr.V took Ralph on a small ride. A ride on which he contemplated his actions in the past few days.
He fully understood the consequences his actions would have on his relationship with his parents, they would most likely silently isolate him while supporting him financially. This was not a good thing but it was half of what he wanted.

He reached home several hours after leaving Mr.V's office and expected to sneak out before sunrise after collecting his call letter.

To Ralph's surprise, his dad sat there in the middle of the hall in the same spot he had fallen after being stabbed by his own son.

His one and only son, who he had named Ralph.

"Do you know why I named you Ralph?", the father spoke.

Ralph had not expected his dad to talk to him, not after what he had done.

"It means Old Wolf. That's all I know.", he replied in a flat tone, wondering where this conversation was going.

"An Old Wolf is the one that survives, an old wolf leads the pack. An old wolf is not just any other wolf, an old wolf has dreams and is ready to deal with those consequences and come out alive.", the father pointed to his wound and continued,"This is the action you took out of anger and yet you were composed. There you displayed the one quality which every wolf has, being calm in the face of adversity. This wound is the consequence of your dream and mine."

"All I wanted to do was dance, I'm Sorry," he said looking into his father's eyes.

"All I wanted to do was protect you." the father replied and handed out his call letter and another envelop.
The envelope read,"To be opened when the Old Wolf is Old enough"

The father got up and shook Ralph's hand and simply nodded.

Meanwhile, the mother walked out with a duffel bag and a suitcase.
She walked towards Ralph handed him a very old leather-bound diary, a diary with the words, " The Old Wolf " neatly covered with dust.
She said, "The envelope will explain the diary".
She silently left while smiling back at her son.

Ralph stood there shocked and unable to understand what had just happened.

Ralph silently walked to one corner of the house, pulled up a chair and sat down. Watched his parents packing all their clothes.

They were laughing, they were planning to travel.

He opened the envelop after his parents left, it read:

Date:19.03.1998

Dear Ralph,

This letter is to tell you a few things that you will understand when you are old enough.
Some things cannot be taught but must be experienced.
Love and Success are one of them, the most important of the lot.
I may or may not be successful when you read this letter but you must remember. Your father has lived his life and will always live his life one step at a time not because the future is overwhelming but he wants to give the present the time to nurture and become his dream.
Your actions while chasing your dreams will have consequences and I cannot stress enough of the fact that if you have a dream then you will have to deal with its consequences.
Coming to love, I'll only say,"Do not chase it, only express."One more thing you will see in your life is despair, failure and all the other odd feelings.
Those times might seem like the hardest but they too shall pass for nothing is unchanging.
It is harder to stay successful and happy than to stay successful.
Strive to be happy, the rest will follow.

My son, Ralph, the old wolf must dream of the extraordinary because you are my son and I believe in you.

Your Father

P.S: I'm not usually this serious.

Ralph realized that the letter was written on his naming ceremony. He remembered his parents telling him how big a deal it was, his parents named him Ralph in an orthodox Hindu family such as theirs.

His parents simply turned a blind to all taunts and suggestions to any other names.
He now understood why he was named Ralph.

Ralph gazed at the envelope for a while, digesting the fact that the person who wrote the letter is his father.

The diary simply read*,"Always pen down your thoughts here. You are one step away from making a bad decision."*

Times had changed both his parents, so had it changed him.

He understood that times will change and so he will also have to do the same.

He packed his bags and left Mr.V's offer letter included everything a dance company would offer and also his home address.
He looked at his scooter and smirked.
The journey had only begun.

The spot remained untouched after all those years with just the addition of becoming even more picturesque.

She held his hand and walked to the edge where they could see hills cascading over each other clad with the silky white mist saying,"You're home, the hills are here for you!"

There is this fuzzy feeling you get from the bottom of your stomach when you reach the hills, it brings you limitless joy and at the same time, you know you can not stay here forever.

Both of them had zoned out, they sat there staring into the hills and lost in thought.
The same thought, " Am I chasing my dreams? "

Arushi dreamt of being an architect, creating buildings and making a difference in the world, undoubtedly like her grandmother and Ralph dreamt of being the lead dancer in a troupe that would tour the country and one day just maybe tour the world.

But, both of them faced opposition from their fathers. To each father, his own reasons and they were rightly placed in their own world and not their children's.
Therein lies the irony.

Whose world?
What Dreams and their Consequences?

People zone out and create something.
Some create things and ideas which change the way they think or see the world.
Sometimes its light, sometimes it's dark.

Arushi chooses the light, she chooses to fight and make sacrifices.
She fought her family's legacy and sacrificed Ralph.
She soared off the edge of the hills chasing something she could not see but knew it was there.

Ralph was closer to the dark than he was to reason with his own doubts. He was over the edge of those hills, falling into a pit of despair, self - doubt and self - loathing.

The hills had talked to them and it was time for them to part.
She smiled at him with a radiance which almost sparked Ralph's heart but failed anyway and whispered into his ear's, " Chase em with your heart, we only live once. "

This set of a chain of events, undoing everything buddy had worked for in the past few months.

The ultimatum came when he sat in the dark surrounded by his fears of failure and dread holding a knife up to his mediastinum.

All the father tried to do was protect him.

"Wake up, Wake up Arushi! We need to go!"

"What?", she said hazily.

"Here are some proper clothes, as much as I like the view, you'll be cold."
