Nostalgia

You reminisce a time, like it was a dream,
And it's tugging on your vacant heart,
Draining and weighing down at once.

You can't help but feel an empty space,
Gaping wide and hollowed in your chest,
From the pieces time took away from you.

You feel like you've been drained of life.
Perhaps you've been long dead now,
And your mind just hasn't caught up yet.

But remember that nostalgia is dirty liar
Who dips the past in sugar and smoke,
Chipping away at what you choose to forget.

Maybe it's time to gather up your pieces
And to move on like no other time existed,
And let go of this bouquet of wilted promises.
